When a child is born into an impoverished family, they enter the first phase of a long and challenging cycle that can run for generations. When a family lives in poverty, they usually have very limited or no access to resources. This means they have few opportunities to further themselves, leaving the entire family fastened tightly in the poverty trap.
Education is often overshadowed in poor households where day to day survival is the main focus. Uneducated parents are far less likely to prioritise school attendance, encourage high school and break traditional gender roles so their daughters can learn.
When a child is successfully educated they are more likely to pass on their knowledge to their own children in the future. They are more likely to expose their children to more enhanced learning experiences from a younger age. Education is likely to become a larger priority and expectation in their family culture.
When children born into poverty are sent to school, they have the ability to change the educational culture within their families.
While Primary and Secondary School education in Tanzania is theoretically free, there are many additional costs that prevent students from low-income families attending school. Our students cannot afford school uniforms, books, school meals or even transportation. Their financial situation causes them to start their education late and in many cases also drop out early. Not finishing their formal education leaves them with very limited career options.
By sponsoring a child’s pre-school education, you ensure that they start Primary School well-prepared and also give the parents more time to earn a living for their family, knowing their child is well-looked after.
Sponsoring a student’s Secondary School education, gives a top student from a poor background the chance to continue with their education and ultimately become well-rounded members of their community. We believe in the power of education and its ability to increase opportunities.
We have travelled a lot, and meet a lot of people and Schools, and ask them to send us information when they come acroos with very vulnerable students, who doesnt have even the basic things like shoes, Books or food for school / lunch
